Game Setting

Your community, Disaster Landing, is a small town on the Gulf Coast. The town is built on Hurricane Island, one of the barrier islands surrounding the harbor that serves a nearby large city. The town was originally a port, and centered around the docks where cargo was loaded and unloaded from ships.

Today, the town has grown into a typical small coastal community. While the town no longer serves as a port, the docks still see some use from commercial and sport fishermen. Many of the town's residents work in the industrial zone on the island to the north, processing crude oil and building offshore oil rigs for a large petroleum company. Disaster Landing is also a popular tourist destination, and many locals work at the hotels, stores, and condominium complexes that cater to visitors.

Hurricane Island has many attractive beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. It also has a national nature preserve; the marsh on the inland side of the island is a protected wetland and bird sanctuary that is home to many endangered species and migratory birds. Some tourists come just for the bird-watching.
