Beach Loss. Construction of the seawall required some dredging in the channel north of Hurricane Island, which changed the pattern of longshore currents. As a result, beaches at the southern end of the island have begun to erode as they lose sand. Heavy waves during the tropical storm accelerated the process. As this process continues, some properties are likely to be threatened by the movement of the shoreline.
